+ BACKGROUND

Maxwell is an associate lawyer at Sutherland Law and primarily practices in civil and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Sutherland Law, Maxwell practiced at a prominent tax law firm in downtown Toronto – with an emphasis on tax disputes and litigation, where he represented clients at the CRA audit and appeals stage and the Tax Court of Canada.

Maxwell also has experience in the areas of individual/corporate tax planning, corporate restructuring, wills and estates, corporate law, commercial lending, and personal injury. By being exposed to a wide range of practice areas, Maxwell strives to gain a comprehensive understanding of the client’s need for an optimal legal solution.

Maxwell earned his Juris Doctor degree at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law (Lakehead University) and his Bachelor of Commerce degree (majoring in Law & Business) at Ryerson University. During his time at Bora Laskin, Maxwell achieved one of the highest marks in Professional Responsibility, Elder Law, Business of Law, and Commercial Law. Additionally, he served as a mentor to new law students in order to help them succeed in their legal studies. Maxwell’s mentorship helped him develop strong active listening skills required to guide clients throughout their legal obstacles.

Outside of the legal profession, Maxwell enjoys working out at the gym, playing hockey and golf, spending time with family and friends, and travelling.
